What our patients are saying

Things you might be wondering about dental implants

Dental implants are crafted to offer a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. Individuals who have lost teeth regain the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile confidently, knowing their teeth appear natural and their facial contours are maintained. These implants consist of tiny titanium posts inserted into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a robust foundation for artificial teeth. Additionally, dental implants help preserve facial structure by preventing the bone deterioration that typically occurs when teeth are missing.

If, like many others, you feel implant dentistry is the choice for you, we ask that you undergo a dental/radiographic examination and health history. During these consultation visits, your specific needs and considerations will be addressed by either Dr. Charlton or by an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon referred by our practice. Your questions and concerns are important to us and our team will work with you very closely to help make your procedure a success.

Dental implants are metal anchors that act as substitutes for tooth roots, surgically placed into the jawbone. Small posts are then attached to the implants, protruding through the gums to provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth.

For most patients, the dental implant process involves two surgical procedures. First, the implants are placed within the jawbone. Over the next three to six months, the implants gradually bond with the bone beneath the surface of the gums. During this time, you can wear temporary dentures and maintain a soft diet. Meanwhile, your restorative dentist will design the final bridgework or dentures to improve both function and aesthetics.

Once the implants have bonded to the jawbone, the second phase begins. The surgeon will uncover the implants and attach small healing collars. Dr. Charlton will then take impressions to start crafting your new teeth. Posts or attachments are connected to the implants, and the replacement teeth are made to fit over these posts or attachments. The entire procedure typically takes six to eight months, with most patients experiencing minimal disruption to their daily lives.
